Dogs

Beartown farms adopted the Great Pyrenees and Maremmas to protect our livestock from predators.  Predators were a great limitation to our sheep farm operation in northern NY.

Many predators like to invite our tasty lambs and calves to lunch. We lost 30% of our sheep flock to coyotes and bobcats, during our first few years of operation.  We don’t intend to fight the wild animals with guns, because they are doing what they need to do for their survival. Our guardian dogs keep predators away from our livestock.

Our wonderful dogs have proved to be the greatest guardian animals for our farm. We are very grateful for having Lucy and Emma around our farms. Nate and Brownie are the most recent additions to our existing crew. They are learning from their peers and have started working with the sheep. We are expecting more new puppies to keep up with the number of the sheep on the farms in the future. From time to time, these puppies will be for sale.
